The brief

What they needed.

A parish website has one audience that spans every generation — from young families looking up First Communion prep to long-time parishioners checking whether there's Mass on Monday. St. Mary's in Carleton Place was running on an old WordPress site that was, more or less, falling apart. It was hard to navigate for visitors and even harder for the parish to keep up to date: every schedule change, weekly bulletin and news item meant fighting a clunky back end. For a church whose Mass, Adoration and Confession times shift week to week with feasts, visiting clergy and Father's travel, a site that's hard to update is a site that's wrong — and a wrong Mass time is the one thing a parish website can't afford.

What we built

A parish home built for every age

We designed and built St. Mary's a website that feels as welcoming as the parish itself — warm, calm and traditional, with nothing too busy. Clear type, generous spacing and simple navigation mean a grandparent and a teenager can both find what they came for in seconds.

The challenge

Informative, never overwhelming

A church site carries a lot of information — schedules, sacraments, ministries, bulletins, the cemetery — so we designed it to stay easy to read no matter who's reading it.

Mass, Adoration and Confession times front and centre on the home page, laid out as a simple two-week calendar with a clear colour key — the question almost every visitor arrives with, answered first.

Readable for all ages: large, high-contrast text, plain-language labels and a calm layout with no clutter competing for attention.

Everything a parishioner needs one tap away — livestream, donations, this week's bulletin, and the full parish calendar.

Built mobile-first, so the schedule reads just as cleanly on a phone in the parking lot as on a desktop at home.

On mobile, the calendar becomes a simple day-by-day list.

The parish runs it themselves

The old site's real problem was upkeep, so we built St. Mary's an admin and content system that puts every part of the site in the parish's own hands.

Every section of the site editable from one simple admin — no developer, no plugins, no fighting a page builder.

Weekly schedule changes, one-off notes like “No Mass today while Father is away,” and parish news posted in minutes.

Bulletins, letters and the monthly pastoral calendar uploaded straight to the site the moment they're ready.

Future-proofed on a modern, fast stack — no aging WordPress install to patch and nurse along.

“This Week at St. Mary's” — parish news the office posts straight from the admin.

St. Mary's traded a crumbling WordPress site for one that's welcoming, easy for every generation to read, and effortless for the parish to keep up to date. The schedule is always right, the news is always fresh, and the website finally does what a parish website should: help people find their way to Mass.
